About Counsel Giver
--the person and the site--

So who am I?

I'm a college graduate, with a Bachelor's in Psychology. And a recently-obtained certificate of ordination from the Universal Life Church, which pretty much is my credential for this venture, should I need one. I have a small business in North Carolina, Rebecca of Many Trades. I'm pretty liberal, and I don't have much patience with narrow-mindedness.

Most of my life, I have wanted to help people feel better about themselves. I look for and recognize the good in humans. It is important to me to help people realize they do indeed have worth and talents to share.

Over the course of my life, I've come to realize that many people need advice about life situations that arise. Perhaps people need help understanding the depths of grief. Or need help in dealing with work-related problems. Or need help in dealing with questions regarding sexuality.

Many times, what people really need most is to be understood. To have someone consider the situation they are in with a different vision, and to be treated with respect as they relate the details of the situation.

I do not always have answers for life questions, by any means. But I try to help people understand the circumstances in which they find themselves, and to offer common-sense based comments and advice.

I invite you to read through the material on this site, to perhaps get a better idea of my thoughts. An index of essays may be found here; along with essays by me there are essays by David Gwynn and Patrick Cleary, which are reprinted with their permission.

You will also find on this site information about pamphlets of advice, available for purchase. Details about the pamphlets will be found here.

If you have general questions about the site, please ask. If you have specific requests for advice, please go to this page for information on doing that.
